Skincare Product Review

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning I receive a small commission if you decide to make a purchase through my links, at no cost to you.

This post is going to be broken up into things I love, things I don’t love and things I’m still “eh” about. Regardless of what it is, I still spent a whole bunch of money mis amores and I’m here to tell you all about it!

I’m not going to lie, some things I jumped on because of the hype that we see on social media and some stuff I did my research on because I was just trying to solve a specific problem or issue with my skin. So let’s get started!

Let’s start with the products I love:

  1. I have horrible bags under my eyes. Like the puffiness and darkness is real. It could have easily happened when I became a mom and started losing a significant amount of sleep. Whatever the root cause of my dilemma, it brought me to this product:
24k undereye collagen patches

I owe all of you a before and after picture, but I put one of these babies on while I’m making breakfast or binge watching Netflix y pareco gente (I look like a decent human being)! I normally put them on for about 30-45 minutes and then take it off and massage the excess product into my skin. The one annoying thing I hate is that it moves out of place if I’m moving too much, but that’s minor to how it looks when all is said and done.

Purchase yours here.

2. There is nothing more annoying than having dry, crusty lips. NOTHING. So, I invested in a Laneige lip sleeping mask. I know it says that it’s for night use, pero, I definitely put this on throughout the day. Don’t judge. Keeps my lips soft, smooth and plump. Purchase here.

Lip Sleeping Mask

3. It’s so hard to find a good moisturizer and I’ve been pretty loyal to Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream. I just love the consistency – it’s light weight, fast absorbing, not greasy. The formula, overall, is great and has not disappointed. Honestly, it’s one of those products that if I ever forget while I’m on vacation or a work trip, I get super upset about. lol

Facial Cream

Purchase yours here.

4. I don’t get horrible blackheads, but when I do, I really love the Biore blackhead strips. I probably use them once a month or even once every other month, but I like to keep them on hand either way. It’s quick, semi-painless, and instant results for a smooth nose. Purchase yours here.

Hype Products that I’m not really a fan of (maybe I got the wrong ones or I have the wrong routine in place, but I definitely don’t love at the moment:

We’re all aging, so I wanted to have a day and night routine that could start reducing the wrinkles, fine lines and loose skin.

I tried the following products: CeraVe Skin Renewing Vitamin C Serum (Day), CeraVe Skin Renewing Retinol Serum (Night) and the CeraVe Eye Repair Cream (twice a day).

CeraVe

Maybe I’m not being patient, but after 30+ days of use, I have yet to see results with these products. They are lightweight and smooth on the skin, but the results are just not there for me. The Vitamin C serum also irritated my skin, where it felt like I was sun burnt – very strange. I’m going to keep going with the eye repair cream to see if I notice a difference, but I am definitely taking a break from the other two.

“Eh” products that I want to love:

  1. I love night creams because I truly feel like I wake up refreshed with smoother skin than my toddler (lol), but I just can’t get jiggy with the Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Dream Face Cream. Needless to say, I want it to work because it’s pricey and I do enjoy the results, but I just can’t, but I will… confusing (I’m going to use it because I paid for it, but I’m going to whine about it)? Purchase here.
Night Cream

2. Is there a sun screen that isn’t thick, strong smelling and greasy? Is there? Huh? Huh? I want to love the Neutrogena Age Shield Face sunscreen because I know all the benefits, but something about it just doesn’t sit right.

Sunscreen

Purchase here if you would like to try it. I’m of course going to keep using it; therefore, I will update you guys soon!

My In-Home Nail Salon

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning I receive a small commission if you decide to make a purchase through my links, at no cost to you.

Do you ever get so excited about something that you have to shout it from the rooftops? Yes? Me too! They always say that negative experiences travel faster than positive ones and I’m really trying to change that unwritten rule in the world, because hey… why not? We have to do better!

I’ve been getting my nails done at a nail salon for as long as I can remember. I would schedule these nail dates with my cousins, and it kind of became a part of my routine and schedule. Recently, I started thinking about all the money I spent on getting regular manicures, gel manicures, dipping powder, tips, and pedicures over the years and if I do some simple computation (with a calculator of course, but I’m horrible at adding things up), I think I’ve spent a good $25,000 on just that. It sounds like a crazy number, right? But, when you really sit down and think about the times you get paid (for me its 26 times a year) and the average cost of my services, which is about $75 ($75 * 26 because I would normally schedule my appointments around pay day) and multiple that puppy by 17, which is the amount of years I’ve been getting my nails done and then subtracting a few lazy years or weeks then now I know were the hell all my money went. May sound hella’ confusing, but I promise you, it made sense in my head.

Don’t get me wrong, I love getting pampered and having someone do it for me. I also love supporting local businesses, but I can’t sit here and justify someone taking all my money for something I can do myself. If it was a random one-off situation, okay, cool, but this is literally every 2-3 weeks. Not happening! It ends here.

So what did I buy this time? Well to start, it’s an investment. I bought a Gel UV Nail Lamp (the ones they use at the nail salon and a whole bunch of gel polishes. I spent about $40 and then hear this…ok, read this…$160 on nail polish! Has nail polish always been this expensive? Where have I been? After having a small heart attack, I pulled myself together and honestly have been super happy so far! Although, I may take longer than a professional, I’m still a perfectionist, so my nails were looking nail salon good! Probably one of my top purchases this year. Here’s the one I purchased:

Sunuv Gel UV Nail Lamp

Purchase the Gel UV Nail Lamp here.

I also found a a website that sold all of my polish faves. I can’t live without Funny Bunny, You’re such a Budapest and Rich Girl and Po’Boys (OPI)! The website offers tools, gel and regular versions of the polish and some amazing combos to save money! The website is http://www.beyondpolish.com. I’ve also noticed they do a reward system, so my $160 were not in vain – I guess I get something out of it.

If you decide to buy this and get the same amazing experience as I did, please tag me on IG when you take a picture of your results. I would love to see!

Teeth Whitening Kit Review

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning I receive a small commission if you decide to make a purchase through my links, at no cost to you.

I am a coffee drinker – let’s start here. I love hot coffee, iced coffee, sweetened coffee, unsweetened coffee, coffee with cream, coffee with almond milk. Whatever coffee combo is out there, I probably have tried it and have fallen in love. So I am going to use this as my excuse for my slightly yellowing teeth, which I am not proud of; however, there are so many solutions out there that I didn’t even think to break a sweat.

It all started with my obsession of staring at my teeth. I should also admit that I love going to the dentist twice a year, I love my electric tooth brush, and I floss daily, etc. In a nutshell, my teeth are a part of me, my identity and all that. Plus, your smile can easily grab the attention of others whether if it’s for a good thing or a bad thing. I want to be the person with the nice, white teeth, so here is my journey from the last few days.

Also, I should point out that it’s only been 4 days of this treatment and the box does say to repeat the steps for 7-10 days, but I couldn’t contain my happiness for my results so far so here is my review:

I purchased the Auraglow Deluxe Home Teeth Whitening System from Amazon – you can purchase here.

The kit has over 12,000 reviews on Amazon and a rating of 4.4 out of 5. Those are some pretty great results, so I started reading the many, many reviews and it was pretty evident that I had to spend my coins in purchasing this damn kit. I put my Amazon Prime to use and received my kit and waited 2-3 days because I was hesitant. Not hesitant to try it out, but hesitant about having this thing in my mouth for 30 minutes with everything I got going on. Finally, I used one of my Netflix binge days to try it out ( I had nothing better to do). First and foremost, I have tried teeth whitening strips before and my teeth were super sensitive and hurt from those – not with this kit though… okurrr.

What I loved about it:

  1. Super easy to use with step by step directions
  2. Has a total of 20 whitening treatments (do not overload your teeth trays with gel)
  3. Easy power button that times it for 10 minutes (hit it 3 times for 30 minutes) – this was great because I would get impatient, but knowing how much time I had left gave me peace of mind.
  4. Can easily be cleaned and stored for the next day
  5. I got results with ONLY 1 treatment
  6. Great for sensitive teeth
  7. Safe for enamel

My results:

Pictured above I have my before picture with just 1 treatment and then after 4 treatments. Hopefully you are able to see that not only are my teeth whiter, but also much brighter. I have literally been smiling at everything the past few days. Oh, you burned my food? Smile. Oh, you lost my car keys? No worries, smile. My nail just broke? Mija, smile! I am super happy with my results and definitely recommend.

Again, you can purchase the Auraglow Deluxe Home Teeth Whitening System by clicking here.

Rose Water Everything

I don’t know about you guys but something about rose water all over my face is so refreshing. This post is going to focus on three products that I am currently obsessed with. Honestly, if there were another word stronger than obsessed it would be that word. According the the handy dandy internet, I could have used the following words: captivated, infatuated, dominated, overpowered… yeah, anyway. Let’s move right along to exactly what these products are (click link to purchase or learn more about the product):

  1. Hydrating Rose Facial Spray on Amazon here.
  2. Thayers Witch Hazel on Amazon here.
  3. Milk Makeup Cooling Water Stick on Amazon here.

These products have become a part of my daily routine – day and night. Keep in mind that I am not getting paid for promoting these products, I just really, REALLY, really like them! When I gave birth, I knew that my face needed some rejuvenating. My face ended up breaking out, but most importantly I was NOT sleeping with having a newborn and all. This was all a part of not losing myself and still focusing on me and my needs so I can feel alive and also not dead looking for all of my visitors (not really my visitors, my son’s visitors, LOL).

These products together have kept my face baby smooth and have also helped me resolve my blemishes quickly. I always have that fresh face look and I seriously be feeling confident enough to post a selfie without makeup. After washing my face thoroughly, I instantly use the Witch Hazel with one of those cotton pads – and this is already orgasmic, but after this I use a moisturizer and then put the milk makeup cooling water under my eyes. Lastly, I overdose on the hydrating rose facial spray. Yes, overdose. After this little routine, I’m a brand new person.

It’t not just the feeling, but these products have amazing benefits. Witch hazel alone is anti-inflammatory and has antiviral properties. If you have any blemishes or have acne, this might be a great product for you. Rose water soothes any skin irritation, redness, helps heal wounds, and it also changes your mood and can help relieve headaches. Overall, I recommend these products to anyone who loves that refreshed feeling and wants to give their skin some love.

If any of my readers try these products – let me know! I would love to know about your experience.

Xoxo

I’m back and I’m a mom

Firstly, let me apologize because I’m a piece of shit. The last time I wrote on my blog was in July when I was about 4 months pregnant. They are not lying when they say your baby drains you of all your energy because I totally left this blog and everything else I loved behind. I just didn’t have it in me to write, post pictures, and frankly… to be cute. You may notice that my Instagram also took a hit. lol But let’s put all of that in the past –  I am back and better than ever.

My life has changed a bit and I now have a beautiful, sweet baby boy. Although my blog will remain as a curly hair and beauty site, I will definitely be sprinkling some of my mom thoughts and how I balance my passions with my little one. If you are not okay with that, I will hold the imaginary door for you on the way out. lol I am also using this next statement for accountability purposes: I promise to post a new blog every other Thursday going forward.

Let me recap my entire pregnancy, hair and beauty life in a small paragraph:

I have no idea how these pregnant beauty bloggers and Instagram moms do it – looking all majestic while being pregnant all the time. That’s not me – I was looking like a straight homeless woman (my apologies if I offended anyone). I even almost forgot how to do my everyday cat eye and my hair remained in a nice bun the majority of the time. Don’t even get me started on my weekly deep conditioning – it just wasn’t happening. I also have a small shower and being as big as I was, there wasn’t space for me to wash my hair and detangle how I would have liked. Instead, my hair wash days shifted to a nearby sink, but let me tell you – my arms almost gave out. SMH. I’ll be the first to say, that I was at my laziest during my pregnancy – you can judge me all you want. I was; however, committed to having beautiful curly locks while I gave birth – you know? For the pictures and the visitors lol. It was tough, but I achieved it. The toughest part was that I had absolutely no patience while I was washing, deep conditioning and air drying. Probably because I also had no patience for my son who was giving his momma contractions, but he just wasn’t coming. At the end of the day, I was cute my curly hair and I felt accomplished.

If anybody wants to hear about my labor experience as a first time mom – send me a message on here or DM me on Instagram and I will blog my experience.

xoxo

As I Am Naturally

Cuanto tiempo! Lately, I have been raving about As I Am Naturally products. My curls are defined, bouncy and with the perfect amount of fluffiness and no frizz. I truly couldn’t be happier from the results that these products provide.

To be a little more specific, I am obsessed with the leave-in conditioner and the curling jelly. With these products, I noticed that a little goes a long way, which I was super skeptical about because the product is so lightweight and almost watery- like. From my previous posts, I had to switch up my styling method a bit to ensure that my curls received product evenly, but also because I noticed that my curls clumped up more than usual. I still separate my hair in 4 sections, but after smoothing in the leave-in and curling jelly, I brush it out with a Denman and then start separating strands on my own. I’ve noticed that my hair dries fuller and more defined. If I were to rate these products, I’d definitely bless them with a 5/5.

FYI, I have also tried using the Mielle Organics White Peony Leave-in (also obsessed) with the As I Am curling jelly and still receive very similar results.

Makeup

I Promised Makeup

Donde empiezo? When I created this blog, I didn’t want to limit myself to just my hair – I am a Jane of all trades and have the ability to provide insights on makeup as well. So, here it goes. As a teenager I went through the stage of wearing heavy mascara and eyeliner that was so uneven and out of the place that I couldn’t dare call them sisters or cousins, it was more like ex- best friends. That’s the only way I could describe each of my eyes; however, with practice came swift drawn cat eyes that I became very proud of. As social media describes, my eyeliner has the ability to CUT you, slice you, or whatever la juventud calls it nowadays.

It wasn’t just my eyes. I had uneven tones all over my face, a lack of color and to top it off, I was blessed with a cowlick in my left eyebrow – I know what you’re thinking, and trust me, I’m over it. Anyhow, growing up I always read that symmetry meant beauty; therefore I spent thousands of dollars (over the years, I’m not rich so this wasn’t 1 day) becoming my own makeup artist – self-taught. Visit my IG for some photos: @enidcarolyne

Here goes my current everyday look process:

  1. Moisturize and Prime face. Currently I am using the Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer and ELF Cosmetics Hydrating Face Primer. Did ya’ll know that ELF stands for Eyes, Lips, Face? Mind Blown.
  2. I always start with my eyebrows first because it takes the longest – thank you cowlick, I appreciate it. I never steer away from Anastasia Beverly Hills, I just feel like she is the queen of brows and it has worked for me for years. I use the ABH Brow Definer in dark brown. I first outline, fill in and brush out to ensure it looks as natural as possible. I then use NYX concealer in 04 to clean up and give it a more defined look. Lastly, ABH Brow Gel to make sure my brows don’t smudge.
  3. The third step is to work on my eyes. I really like the natural colors here; therefore, I am loyal to the Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte palette. First, I put some of that NYX 04 concealer and then I get to work. My go-to colors are ‘super mom’ and ‘free spirit’ for the base and lid and then a mix of ‘force of nature’ and ‘wanderer’ in the outer edge and crease. Yes, that’s all folks, I am basic as f***.
  4. Let’s finish off that eye with Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner and Better Than Sex Mascara. I do not put on eyelashes for my everyday look. I am way too lazy for that.
  5. I am OBSESSED with Fenty Beauty’s Foundation – I dab it all over my face. Side note: YASSSS RiRi! Then I use Kat Von D’s Lock-it Concealer Creme and draw a triangle under my eye. With anything in the makeup community – blending is highly important. I then do a little baking with Laura Mercier Translucent powder.
  6. By now – I look like a complete ghost; therefore, it is time to put some color back in my face. I use the ABH Contour palette to enhance my cheek bones, but also to cover up my massive forehead. Then, I use my NARS Bronzer/ Blush Duo palette to finish off the look.
  7. Highlight that face girl – for this step, I use BECCA Highlight in Opal or Champagne Pop. I normally put it on my cheeks, tip of the nose and my cupid’s bow (lip).
  8. My everyday look lipstick is either MAC Teddy or NYX Suede in Sandstorm (07).

This was a super lengthy post – if you would like to see a quick video on how I apply these products. Please visit my IG. Don’t forget to comment and like.

For kicks and giggles – how I calculate the cost of my face:

  • Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer: $16.99
  • ELF Primer: $6
  • ABH Brow Definer: $23
  • ABH Brow Gel: $22
  • Tartelette Palette: $46
  • NYX Concealer: $5
  • Better Than Sex Mascara: $23
  • Kat Von D Tattoo Liner: $20
  • Kat Von D Concealer: $26

  • Laura Mercier Translucent Powder: $38 Purchase here!
  • ABH Contour palette: $40
  • NARS Duo: $24
  • BECCA Highlight: $19
